Dr. Howard Liebman, Superintendent and Co-Founder of Smart Horizons Career Online Education (SHCOE), was the “Member Spotlight” guest on the Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce “Today’s Chamber” television Broadcast on May 11, 2011.
Each month, the Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce tapes a “Member Spotlight” segment in “Today’s Chamber” that runs on Cox Communications Channel 2 as well as on their In-Demand Channel.
In a five-minute interview with Kelly Reeser, the Chamber’s Program Coordinator for Economic Development, Dr. Liebman explained how SHCOE became the world’s first AdvancED/SACS accredited online school district in February of this year. This allows SHCOE to open accredited online schools that enable adult learners to earn a high school diploma while also earning a career certificate in one of six critical areas.
SHCOE has already established a number of partnerships with schools, non-profit organizations, and businesses around the country in an ongoing effort to maximize accessibility to its leading edge educational programs. “We’re trying to engage the 45 million adults out there who did not complete their high school diploma to get their high school diploma and a career certificate,” Liebman said in the interview.
Dr. Liebman also discussed SHCOE’s involvement with the City of Pensacola’s Workforce Coalition, established by Mayor Ashton Hayward to provide education and job opportunities for adults who lack a high school diploma.
